247 - Tourism in Brazil continues its strong recovery and growth in 2025. According to data released this Friday (12) by the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE), the sector registered a 6,1% increase in the accumulated period from January to July, compared to the same period last year.

The result mainly reflects the strong performance of segments such as air passenger transport, accommodation services, hotels, buffets, and restaurants. Regionally, 14 of the 17 states analyzed showed positive performance. Among the highlights are Rio de Janeiro (12,7%), Rio Grande do Sul (10,8%), and Bahia (8,4%). São Paulo (6,0%), Paraná (5,8%), and Santa Catarina (5,6%) also stand out.

Continuous growth and regional records.

In a comparison between July 2025 and July 2024, the tourism activity index in the country advanced 3,3%, guaranteeing the 14th consecutive month of growth. The result was driven by air transport, hotel reservations, and catering services. Among the states with the greatest variation in the period, Rio Grande do Sul (18,6%), São Paulo (4,9%), and Rio de Janeiro (4,7%) stand out.

The Minister of Tourism, Celso Sabino, assessed that the numbers reinforce the sector's solidity. “Brazilian tourism is experiencing a moment of great expansion and opportunity creation. The growth registered this year is a direct result of the joint effort between the government, the private sector, and workers in the sector, who have reinvented themselves and demonstrated the strategic importance of tourism for the economy and for the country's development,” he stated.

Historical revenue and economic impact

A survey by FecomercioSP, based on IBGE data, shows that Brazilian tourism generated almost R$ 108 billion in revenue in the first half of 2025 — the highest value in the historical series that began in 2012. This amount represents a growth of 6,9% compared to the same period of the previous year, adding R$ 7 billion to the economy.

All segments registered growth, but air transport stood out, with revenues of R$ 27,3 billion and a 10,6% increase compared to 2024. This performance reinforces the sector's relevance for job creation, economic activity, and strengthening Brazil's image as a tourist destination.
