247 - Canadian singer Nelly Furtado has filed a copyright claim for the use of the melody of "Say It Right" in the chorus of "Lovezinho," a Brazilian Carnival hit created by WK and sung by Treyce. The song's success was boosted by a viral video of influencer Xurrasco performing the song's choreography.

According to Sony Music, which handles the copyrights for Furtado's compositions, the singer contacted the Brazilian musicians to claim royalties for the song. It is not yet known if Treyce will comment on the matter.

Negotiation in progress

WK, in turn, told the G1 Ouviu podcast that he is open to giving up part of the rights to foreign artists, including Furtado herself and American producers Timbaland and Danja. He believes that the correct percentage for foreigners would be 20%, but the negotiation is being carried out between the publishers who represent the interests of each artist.

Furtado also joined in the fun.

It's worth remembering that Nelly Furtado joined in the fun and also danced to the Brazilian summer hit. The song "Lovezinho" became a Brazilian summer success after influencer Xurrasco posted a viral video doing the choreography to the song.

The hit was created by WK and sung by Treyce, who used the melody of "Say It Right" without giving credit. Now, we just have to wait and see how the negotiations between the record labels will go and if Treyce will comment on the matter.
