“Linn deserves respect”: Internet users point out transphobia on BBB and demand action from Globo.
The public points out the disrespect shown by the use of the masculine pronoun to refer to Linn da Quebrada, a trans woman, on the reality show.
247 - Linn da Quebrada's name went to Twitter's trending topics this Saturday (22) after an episode on Big Brother Brasil in which a message from the public referred to her, a trans woman, as a male subject. "Are you single? They're asking here kkkk", said the question, coming from the reality show's audience, displayed on the house's screen.
Internet users pointed out transphobia against the actress and singer and started the hashtag “Linn deserves respect” on social media. Furthermore, they demanded that Globo (the TV network) ensure the episode doesn't repeat itself – as it wouldn't be the first time. “The editing needs to show who sent the text message and give them a stern talking-to,” reacted one internet user.
"Unfortunately, in just a few hours we have already witnessed at least 5 episodes of transphobic violence. Not even the more than 50 cameras are able to inhibit the systemic transphobia in Brazil," posted the artist's official profile. See below the video of the scene and reactions to the scene:
