In this sense, the Managing Director of the Nigerian News Agency, Ali Mohammed Ali, defended what he called "horizontal cooperation" among the media outlets of the BRICS countries. He criticized the low penetration of stories about the African continent in Western media outlets and highlighted the role of Nigerian society in historical causes, such as the fight against apartheid in South Africa.
