BRICS prepares joint declaration in defense of the multilateral trading system.
The document, coordinated by Brazil, reinforces support for WTO reform and proposes greater cooperation among member countries.
247 - Under Brazil's presidency, BRICS held virtual technical meetings of the Contact Group on Economic and Trade Issues (CGETI) on March 24 and 25.
The main objective over these two days was to draft a joint declaration in defense of international economic multilateralism, focusing on the reform of the World Trade Organization (WTO) and the consolidation of a more transparent and equitable trading system.
Furthermore, the group initiated the update of the Economic Partnership Strategy for the period 2026-2030. The document, created during the Russian presidency in 2020, covers cooperation in trade, investment, finance, the digital economy, and sustainable development.
The meetings precede the BRICS ministerial meeting, scheduled for May 21, where the proposals discussed by CGETI will be officially presented.
