Russia wins the race against the coronavirus and will carry out mass vaccination of its population as early as October.
"The vaccine against coronavirus infection, developed by the Gamaleya Institute, has completed its clinical trials," said Health Minister Mikhail Murashko.
Sputnik - The Russian Health Minister has declared that vaccine trials against the pandemic have been completed, and the country is expected to begin mass vaccination as early as October. Speaking to Sputnik, Russian Health Minister Mikhail Murashko stated: "The vaccine against coronavirus infection, developed by the Gamaleya Institute, has completed its clinical trials."
Currently, the necessary documents are being collected for the official registration of the vaccine, which will precede its use.
Regarding the use of the drug, Murashko stated that "we are preparing for mass vaccination against the coronavirus to begin in October."
Furthermore, doctors and teachers should be the first to be vaccinated.
However, at least two more official statements regarding clinical trials of other vaccines developed in Russia are still expected in the next 45 days.
On March 29th, Russian President Vladimir Putin had stated that the coronavirus situation in Russia had stabilized; however, in some regions the situation remains complicated.
Even so, in June and July the number of infections fell by half, compared to the record numbers in May, but the situation could still worsen.
