The Ministry of Health will transfer R$ 600 million to the states to reduce waiting lists for surgeries.

247 - The Ministry of Health will transfer R$ 600 million to states and municipalities to reduce waiting lists for elective surgeries, the ministry announced this Thursday (26). The measure is part of the National Program for Reducing Waiting Lists for Elective Surgeries, Complementary Examinations and Specialized Consultations, one of the priorities of the Lula government. 

Minister Nísia Trindade intends to allocate R$ 200 million initially, while the states prepare assessments of the waiting lists and targets for reduction.

The Ministry of Health is expected to send the remaining funds to the states by June. From then on, R$ 3 billion is earmarked for joint procedures.
