Investments in clean energy in the Northeast will exceed R$ 120 billion.
Minister Alexandre Silveira also confirmed that auctions for power transmission lines will take place.
247 - The Minister of Mines and Energy, Alexandre Silveira, announced on Friday (5) the Energy Transmission Investment Plan for the Northeast region, which will allow the installation of a renewable generation capacity of up to 30 Gigawatts (GW), resulting in more than R$ 120 billion in private investments in the area of renewable generation.
Silveira stated that he is acting under orders from President Lula to "transform the Northeast into the world's largest producer of clean and renewable energy."
"We are fully focused on this task. We are working to realize this incredible potential of 30 gigawatts of renewable generation, which should unlock more than R$ 120 billion in private investments in the area of renewable generation," said Silveira, at a meeting of the Northeast Governors Consortium in Ceará.
The ministry also confirmed that auctions for energy transmission lines will be held. The projected investment is R$ 36 billion in lots this year and another R$ 20 billion in 2024, according to the minister.
The first transmission auction of the year, already scheduled for June 30th, will offer the market nine lots, involving a total of 6,1 kilometers of new transmission lines and investments of 15,8 billion reais.
A second bidding process, scheduled for October, is expected to be the largest ever held in the country, with projected investments of 19,7 billion reais. Only three lots will be offered, most notably a direct current transmission line, with an estimated investment of almost 16 billion reais.
These projects are vital to increasing the flow of energy generated in the Northeast and Minas Gerais, regions with the greatest expansion of wind and solar power sources.
The market was still awaiting a decision on a third auction this year, in December, but some companies in the sector had already been pointing out problems that could arise with the simultaneous development of a large volume of projects. (With Reuters).
