All professionals working in activities that deal directly with the public, in the city of Florianópolis, will be required to wear cloth masks, starting this Friday (17). The measure also applies to the population.
Announced last weekend, the decision by the Florianópolis city government is part of the actions to try to contain the transmission of the new coronavirus (covid-19) in the capital of Santa Catarina.
Establishments that serve the public may be fined or shut down by health authorities if they fail to comply with the measure.
The use of masks should be combined with handwashing and all other necessary COVID-19 prevention measures. This measure prevents the spread through contact with infected droplets, the way the disease is transmitted, adds the municipal executive.
According to the measure, cloth masks are not recommended for healthcare professionals and people who have any symptoms of the disease, who should use surgical masks.
According to the latest data released by the Ministry of Health, the state of Santa Catarina has recorded 884 confirmed cases of COVID-19, with 29 deaths.
