Richa doesn't even pay the minimum wage to teachers in Paraná, criticizes union.

Governor Beto Richa (PSDB) is engaging in deceptive propaganda in the education sector, with defaults on payments and salaries below the national minimum wage stipulated for teachers; this accusation comes from the APP-Sindicato union, which is recharging its batteries this week at the CNTE congress; "Thanks to the non-payment of the base salary adjustment in Paraná, the difference of 7,18% in 2016 has risen to 15,98% this year," says an excerpt from the statement by the Paraná teachers' union denouncing the salary gap.

Esmael's Blog - In his campaign ads, Governor Beto Richa (PSDB) is portrayed as a "big tiger," but in real life, the politician runs a "pussycat" administration—marked by defaults on payments and salaries below the national minimum wage stipulated for teachers.

The complaint comes from the APP-Sindicato union, which this week is recharging its batteries at the CNTE (National Confederation of Education Workers) congress in Brasília.

"Due to the non-payment of the base salary adjustment in Paraná, the difference of 7,18% in 2016 has risen to 15,98% this year," says an excerpt from the statement by the Paraná teachers' union denouncing the salary gap.

The national minimum wage is R$2.298,80, but in Paraná it remained at R$1.982,10 due to the default on the base date.

The representative body of teachers in Paraná has more than enough reasons to call a strike in the category starting on February 15th. This means that the 2017 school year may not begin due to Richa's actions.

Teachers in Paraná receive less than the national minimum wage.

The current salary of teachers at the beginning of their careers would have to be adjusted by 15,98% to comply with what is stipulated by law.

The Ministry of Education (MEC) announced this afternoon (12) the new value of the minimum wage for teachers for 2017. With an adjustment of 7,64% at the national level, the gap between what teachers in Paraná earn and what is determined by the National Minimum Wage Law grows even more.

Due to the non-payment of the base salary adjustment in Paraná, the difference of 7,18% in 2016 rose to 15,98% this year. With the adjustment, the starting salary for teachers in Brazil – for a 40-hour position – should be at least R$2.298,80. In Paraná, educators at the first level of their career receive R$1.982,10.

The APP-Sindicato (Teachers' Union) has been denouncing the non-compliance with the National Minimum Wage Law in the State for years. It has also been advocating for the payment of the category's base salary adjustment, highlighting that, in addition to being below the national minimum wage, educators are experiencing real salary losses, since the base salary adjustment was created to guarantee inflation compensation during the period.
