Paraná 247 – Senator Roberto Requião (PMDB-PR) called the accusation made by Uruguayan Foreign Minister Rodolfo Nin Novoa, that interim Foreign Minister José Serra tried to buy Uruguay's vote in Mercosur, a "shame".

After the story was published in El País, the largest newspaper in Uruguay, the Brazilian government of Michel Temer summoned the ambassador to explain the Uruguayan foreign minister's allegations.
