Paraná 247 - In a special session of the National Congress, this Tuesday the 31st, in homage to Luís Carlos Cancellier, former rector of UFSC, Senator Roberto Requião (PMDB-PR) said that the professor's death was a result of the illegal exercise of state power, which has become widespread in the country in recent years.

"The case of Professor Cancellier is a classic, straightforward example of abuse of power. It is also a complete example of the impunity of arbitrary, despotic authorities."
"Imprisonment without firm, plausible justification, carried out under the spotlight of Globo and CBN; vague accusations, suppositions; and the entire ritual of humiliation to which prisoners, guilty or innocent, are subjected," the senator declared.

"Nowadays, accusing and presenting evidence is a luxury," added Requião. "I offer my condolences to Luís Carlos Cancellier, not as a saint or a hero. I offer my condolences to him as just another Brazilian, like so many thousands of compatriots who are humiliated every day by the lack of justice and unemployment," he honored. The parliamentarian finally questioned: "Are they task forces or death squads?"
