Senator Roberto Requião (PMDB-PR) met last night (7) at a dinner with 30 senators opposed to the impeachment of Dilma Rousseff.

The announcement came as a bombshell hours before the impeachment committee begins, which starts hearing the witnesses indicated by the prosecution in the Senate at 11 am this Wednesday (8).

To definitively bury the removal of the elected president, 27 votes will be needed. In the vote on the admissibility of the impeachment, on May 12, there were 22 senators against and 55 in favor.

Requião revealed that the group agreed on holding new direct elections later this year.

"At a dinner with 30 senators tonight, stunned by recent events, we agreed on direct elections very soon. The people decide!", he tweeted.

The senator from Paraná belongs to the so-called "developmentalist core" in Congress, that is, those who see a way out of the crisis in a strong economy focused on production rather than the rent-seeking speculation of the financial market.

Esmael's Blog will be broadcasting the Senate impeachment committee session live, starting at 11 AM.
