Almost 7,3 people left their homes in RS due to the rains
Twenty municipalities are in a state of emergency.
Brazil Agency - The large volume of rain that caused damage in several locations in Rio Grande do Sul has displaced 5.958 people so far. This information is in the bulletin released by the state government at 9 am this Sunday (22). According to the survey, there are 1.332 homeless people in the state.
A person is considered homeless if they have had to leave their home and are temporarily staying with relatives or friends, hotels, or guesthouses. The homeless are those who have had to go to public shelters or charitable institutions.
According to the latest report from the Rio Grande do Sul Civil Defense, one person is missing and another was injured. Three deaths have been confirmed.
To date, the total number of people rescued by state security forces has reached 733. The government also reports 139 rescued animals.
The report was released again after last week's storms began. In May and April 2024, with extreme weather events that caused 183 deaths, left people homeless, and caused damage across the state, the report was released twice daily.
Counties
In total, 126 municipalities are suffering damage due to the heavy rains. The municipality of Jaguari, in the central-west region of Rio Grande do Sul, has had its state of public calamity recognized by the government.
Twenty municipalities are in a state of emergency:

- Cerro Branco;
- Acute;
- New Palma;
- Southern Cross;
- Pass Seven;
- Saint Sebastian of Cai;
- Cacequi;
- Southern Rosary;
- Tupanciretã;
- New Santa Rita;
- Saint Francis of Assisi;
- Liberato Salzano;
- Amaral Ferrador;
- Toropi;
- Montenegro;
- Silveira Martins;
- Saint Vincent of the South;
- Julio de Castilhos;
- Southern Paradise.
River and lake levels
The rain has left rivers and lakes in Rio Grande do Sul on alert, some even reaching flood stage. These include:
- Uruguay (in the municipalities of São Borja and Uruguaiana) – slow upward trend;
- Sinos – a slow upward trend in the municipality of São Leopoldo and stability in Campo Bom;
- Ibirapuitã (Alegrete) – slow decline trend;
- Ibicuí (Manoel Viana) – stability trend;
- Jacuí (Cachoeira do Sul to the Jacuí delta) – decline between Cachoeira do Sul and São Jerônimo, and stability in the islands region of the Porto Alegre metropolitan area.
- Islands in the Porto Alegre metropolitan region – high levels and a tendency towards stability;
- Caí (Montenegro) – declining trend.
The rivers with flood alert levels are:
- Guaíba – high levels over the next few days, with no expectation of reaching the flood level of Cais Mauá or Gasômetro, in the state capital;
- Santa Maria (Dom Pedrito) – declining trend;
- Caí (São Sebastião do Caí) – declining trend;
- Gravataí (Gravataí and Alvorada) – trend towards stability;
- Taquari (Taquari) – declining trend;
- Paranhana (Taquara) – slow decline trend.
The state government also listed the rivers at flood risk as a warning level:
- Taquari (Bom Retiro do Sul to Porto Mariante) – declining trend;
- Caí (Nova Palmira and Costa do Rio Cadeia) – declining trend;
- Santa Maria (Rosário do Sul) – stability trend;
- Quaraí – declining trend.
The Taquari River, in the region that stretches from Santa Tereza to Estrela and Lajeado, is beginning to return to normal levels.

Highways
The state is also experiencing partial and total road closures due to the rains, which are causing traffic disruptions on highways. Since last year's floods, the state government has provided a map. online which gathers real-time data on the status of federal, state and concession highways.
The tool is updated by the Military Brigade Highway Command (CRBM), Federal Highway Police (PRF), the Autonomous Department of Highways (Daer) and the Gaucho Highway Company (EGR) and can be accessed here.
Hospitals
Residents of the municipality of Paraíso do Sul still do not have access to Hospital Paraíso, in Vila Paraíso (RS).
In Rolante, four patients transferred from the Hospital Foundation remain hospitalized at Santo Antônio da Patrulha Hospital. The state government has classified the state's other hospitals as operating normally.
