Imprisoned in the Lava Jato corruption scandal, Vaccarezza is interrogated by the Federal Police in Curitiba.
Detained on Friday (18), as part of Operation Abate, the 44th phase of Operation Lava Jato, former deputy Cândido Vaccarezza was questioned by the Federal Police this Monday (21); Vaccarezza is suspected of having received R$ 400 in illicit funds to facilitate the hiring of foreign companies by Petrobras.
Brazil Agency - Former federal deputy Cândido Vaccarezza was questioned by the Federal Police (PF) this afternoon (21), in Curitiba. He has been detained in the PF jail in the capital of Paraná since he was arrested, last Friday (18), during Operation Abate, the 44th phase of Operation Lava Jato.
Vaccarezza is suspected of receiving illicit funds to facilitate the hiring of foreign companies by Petrobras. The Federal Police and the Federal Public Prosecutor's Office (MPF) claim that he allegedly received approximately US$430 in bribes for each contract signed between the oil company and Sargeant Marine, from the United States, between 2010 and 2013.
According to the investigation, the former Petrobras Supply Director Paulo Roberto Costa and the Workers' Party (PT) were the other beneficiaries of the bribes paid in this scheme. The criminal activity resulted in the signing of twelve contracts between Petrobras and Sargeant Marine, which yielded approximately US$180 million to the American company.
During Operation Abate, agents found approximately R$ 122 in cash at the former congressman's home. At the time of his arrest, he could not justify the origin of the money. Vaccarezza's interrogation began at 14 PM. The Federal Police informed that they will not release the content of the interrogation to the press.
