Pessuti could be Álvaro Dias' first alternate.

The joining of former governor Orlando Pessuti (PMDB) to the PSDB could have collateral effects on Paraná politics; the first of these concerns the composition of the majoritarian ticket; although the PMDB member has announced his intention to run "independently" for the Senate on Governor Beto Richa's (PSDB) reelection ticket, he will likely have to settle for the first alternate position to Senator Álvaro Dias (PSDB), who rejects a coalition with the PMDB if he has a Senate candidate.

Esmael's Blog - The joining of former governor Orlando Pessuti (PMDB) to the PSDB could have collateral effects on Paraná politics. The first of these has to do with the composition of the majoritarian ticket. Although the PMDB member has announced his intention to run "independently" for the Senate on Governor Beto Richa's (PSDB) reelection ticket, he will likely have to settle for the first alternate position to Senator Álvaro Dias (PSDB), who rejects a coalition with the PMDB if he has a candidate for the Senate.

Pessuti and Álvaro are putting together this package with an eye on 2018, as the senator would leave his post so the PMDB member could enjoy another 4 years in office and run for the Iguaçu Palace with the support of Richa, who would then move to the Senate. To weather the "winter" between 2015 and 2018, the former governor, now a supporter, would have Sanepar "lock, stock, and barrel."

The second effect concerns billionaire businessman Joel Malucelli (PSD), who dreamed of the same first alternate position as Álvaro. He had to give up his dream to Richa's desire for reelection, who is in charge of the PSDB's political maneuvering.

The third consequence of Pessuti's joining could be felt last night in Curitiba, during a meeting of the PMDB's state executive committee. Federal deputy Osmar Serraglio, president of the party in the state, gave up his reelection to the Chamber of Deputies to seek the vice-governorship on the governor's ticket, if the convention approves the coalition.click here).
