Federal judge Sérgio Moro, responsible for the Lava Jato Operation cases, requested an opinion from the Federal Public Prosecutor's Office (MPF) regarding the request for psychological treatment made by the defense of the former director of Petrobras' International Area, Nestor Cerveró. On Wednesday (4), the investigated party was attended to by an ambulance from the Mobile Emergency Care Service (Samu), after presenting a clinical picture of anxiety, with high blood pressure, according to the lawyers.

In the request made to the judge, Cerveró's defense attached a report signed by psychologist Elizabeth Carneiro, requesting authorization to begin treatment inside the prison. The lawyers had even requested his hospitalization, but later withdrew the request.

"I declare, for all due purposes, that Nestor Cerveró has been my patient for three years and has been undergoing psychotherapeutic treatment since then for an anxiety disorder. Since April 2014, he has been presenting severe depressive symptoms, thus requiring psychological treatment for this pathology as well. He currently presents with major depression, and the interruption of his psychological treatment would be extremely harmful," the doctor states in the report.

Cerveró has been in the custody of the Federal Police Superintendency in Curitiba since January 14th, due to developments in Operation Lava Jato. He was arrested on charges of attempting to conceal his assets.

According to a report from the Council for the Control of Financial Activities (Coaf), on December 16th, Cerveró withdrew R$ 500 from a private pension fund and transferred the amount to his daughter, even after being warned by the bank manager that he would lose 20% of the value. In June of last year, the former Petrobras director had transferred properties to his children at below-market values. The Federal Public Prosecutor's Office (MPF) interpreted this as an attempt to shield his assets, and therefore, his arrest was requested. His defense denies that the withdrawals were intended to dispose of assets.
