Paraná 247 – One day after being, proportionally to his state's electoral college, the most voted senatorial candidate in the country, with 77% of the valid votes, Álvaro Dias (PSDB), who is now re-elected for his third term (2015-2022), thanked the "enormous show of confidence from the population of Paraná".

"For the voter, what is done before the start of the campaign is more important than what can be said or promised during the campaign. And that is proof of the voter's political maturity. That is why I will never underestimate the voter, the citizen," the politician told G1.

According to the legislator, the voter deserves respect, "because when given the opportunity to analyze the situation, they know how to interpret the political facts and make the most correct decisions."

Alvaro Dias was elected the most voted senator in the country in percentage terms, taking into account the state electoral college, that is, in proportional terms. When the total number of votes is considered, and not the percentage obtained by a candidate for senator, the PSDB member comes in fourth place, with 4.101.848 votes.

The top spot in the Senate elections went to former São Paulo governor José Serra (PSDB), with 11.105.874 of the valid votes in São Paulo. In second place was Antônio Anastasia (PSDB), with 5.102.987 votes in Minas Gerais; followed by Romário (PSB), with 4.683.963 votes in Rio de Janeiro.

Presidential and state elections

The senator stated that, if presidential candidate Aécio Neves (PSDB) is elected, he will play a supportive role in his endeavors. "I will work to push for reforms that can allow the country to grow again in accordance with its potential," said Alvaro Dias.

According to the congressman, Brazil needs reforms, especially political, federal (to decentralize the Union's resources), tax, and administrative reforms. "Reforms that have been promised and denied so often," he criticized.

The congressman also said that Aécio is the favorite to win the election because Brazil is clamoring for change. "There is a feeling of indignation regarding what has been happening in recent years. The economic paralysis and the corruption scandals are compounded, and this conveys a sense of disenchantment to the voter," he remarked.

Regarding the reelection of the governor of Paraná, Beto Richa (PSDB), with 55,7% of the valid votes, Alvaro stated that his party colleague reacted "with composure, prudence, and the necessary restraint" to the attacks suffered during the campaign. "He knew how to resist the attacks during the campaign. He was attacked a lot," he added.
