A court in Santa Catarina denies arrest, but extends the suspension of a professor who praised Hitler.

247 - The Santa Catarina State Court rejected the Public Prosecutor's request for the preventive detention of state school teacher Rubenval Sérgio Duarte, who was filmed by students praising Nazi dictator Adolf Hitler in the classroom. Although the investigation into the teacher is confidential, the Santa Catarina Public Prosecutor's Office announced that the request for preventive detention was denied and that, instead, Rubenval will be suspended from his duties for 180 days.

In light of this new incident, the Secretariat ordered a further 60-day administrative suspension, which will be extended to comply with the court's decision.
Rubenval Duarte is being investigated by the 40th Public Prosecutor's Office of Imbituba and the Nucleus for Combating Crimes of Racism and Intolerance. In the video, which went viral on social media, the professor enthusiastically stated his support for the atrocities committed by Hitler and his admiration for the Nazi dictator.
The State Department of Education of Santa Catarina sent a note to the newspaper Estado de S.Paulo on Thursday, the 16th. “The State Department of Education (SED), through the Regional Coordination of Laguna, informs that, as soon as it became aware of the teacher's conduct on the morning of Tuesday the 14th, it began to take all appropriate measures, given that there is a process underway. The teacher's suspension has been extended for 60 days and the SED informs that it will take all measures within the law,” it says.
