With an annual revenue of R$ 360 million, the company is the largest pillow manufacturer in Latin America. In addition to the city in Santa Catarina, the company operates in the interior of the state of São Paulo, in Sergipe, and in Paraguay. Altenburg employs 1.700 workers in its factories.
According to an article published this Thursday (13) by Folha de S.Paulo newspaperThe Public Prosecutor's Office warned the company not to pressure its employees to make political statements in favor of or against any candidate. It also requested that the manufacturer disseminate the contents of the notification through WhatsApp groups, emails, and company posters.
The Union of Workers in the Spinning and Weaving Industries of Blumenau (Sintrafite) sent a letter to the MPT (Public Prosecutor's Office for Labor), on September 30th, detailing the complaints from employees that the company owner, Rui Altenburg, ordered the interruption of production to gather workers and give a speech against the presidential candidate Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT).
If the business owner fails to comply with the recommendations, the Public Prosecutor's Office may summon company representatives to discuss the allegations and sign a conduct adjustment agreement, or file a lawsuit.
