247 - Tucanos have confirmed the affiliation of the governor of Rio Grande do Sul, Eduardo Leite (PSDB), to the PSD, with the aim of running for President of the Republic. The expectation is that the announcement could be made in the coming weeks. The information was published this Friday (18) by Folha de S.Paulo newspaper

The national president of the PSD, Gilberto Kassab, and Leite met on Monday (14), in São Paulo, when the PSD leader made the proposal.

Leite's move within the PSD depends on the president of the Senate, Rodrigo Pacheco (PSD-MG), whom Kassab invited to be a presidential candidate, but the congressman has not yet decided whether or not he will run for the presidency.

Kassab has already stated that the governor of Rio Grande do Sul has the profile of a presidential candidate. "He has the conditions, he has the prerequisites to be a candidate, he is young, he is respected, he has already shown that he wants to be president of the Republic," he said.

"He has already shown that he has an alliance with the PSD in his state, Rio Grande do Sul. It also fulfills an expectation of our party that our president should be independent from this government," he added.
