Toll Road CPI: Congressman points to "exorbitant" profits
The president of the Toll Road CPI, Deputy Nelson Luersen (PDT), points to the significant profits of the toll road concessionaires in Paraná; "One example is Ecocatarata. From 2001 to 2012, there was a 317% increase in the amount collected in cash, while the IPCA (Brazilian inflation index) for this period increased by 112%," he stated.
Paraná247 – When starting the analysis of the documentation delivered by the Association of Toll Concessionaires last Friday (20), the president of the Toll CPI, deputy Nelson Luersen (PDT), said he had found data that proves exorbitant profits of the concessionaires in Paraná.
"One example is Ecocatarata. From 2001 to 2012, there was a 317% increase in the amount of money collected, while the IPCA (Brazilian inflation index) for that period increased by 112%. Also in those 12 years, there was an 87% increase in the number of vehicles at the toll booths; that is, it's an exorbitant profit, with a margin far above what was expected and reasonable. Only such data justifies the reduction in the toll price," Luersen told Portal Banda B.
According to the congressman, this same analysis can be applied to other concessionaires. The congressman also stated that these companies will have no way to contest the data. "We are not going to work with assumptions, but with documents received from the concessionaires themselves, only truthful documents. And how will they contest their own numbers?", he stated.
Commenting on the work of the Toll Road CPI (Parliamentary Commission of Inquiry), Luersen said that the commission will not turn into a circus and that the deputies will not appear at any cost. "We won't have deputies shooting in all directions, talking nonsense, without changing anything. We will work with official data to prove that toll prices should decrease and that the works can be carried out," he added.
