The Senate Agency - Senator Roberto Requião (PMDB-PR) filed a request this Thursday (5) to create a parliamentary commission of inquiry (CPI), with the support of 38 senators, 11 more than the minimum required. The CPI should investigate allegations of irregularities in public transport throughout the country.

Requião said that the government has been subsidizing public transportation without thoroughly verifying the accuracy of the cost spreadsheets. He also complained that fare increases in one capital city, such as Curitiba, quickly spread to others, like Brasília.

With the CPI (Parliamentary Commission of Inquiry), the Senate will contribute to the federal government's efforts to improve public transportation in the country, stated Requião. He added that the commission will analyze cost spreadsheets and investigate allegations of bid rigging in the contracting of public transportation companies.

"These are quite clear signs that are reaching me. We are not seeking the spotlight; we are listening to the voice of the streets and trying to provide a definitive solution to the problem of public transportation in Brazil," he stated.
