Coronavirus is spreading rapidly across the Southern and Central-Western regions of Brazil.

In the first week of June, the two regions together accounted for about 4% of new deaths recorded each day in the country. Today, they already represent almost 18%.

247 - The epidemic of new coronavirus It has accelerated in the South and Central-West regions of Brazil in recent weeks, according to mortality data released by state health departments and published this Tuesday (14) in reporter in the newspaper Estado de S.Paulo.

According to the report, a series of indicators shows how Covid-19 has begun to more intensely affect the South and Midwest regions, which until now seemed to have been spared from large-scale local epidemics because they adopted social isolation measures from the beginning of the pandemic in the country, but which did not hold up over time. 

In the first week of June, the two regions together were responsible for about 4% of the new deaths registered each day in the country. Today, they already represent almost 18%. Between the first week of June until this Monday (13), the daily average of deaths in the South went from 21 to 98, which represents an increase of 367%. In the Midwest, in the same period, the average number of deaths per day jumped even more: it went from 19 to 114, a variation of 500%.
