Retail in Paraná expands sales by almost 10%.
In November, real revenue (adjusted for inflation), according to the broader definition of the survey, expanded by 9,2% compared to November 2012; the survey, which includes, in addition to retail, the activities of vehicles, motorcycles, parts and accessories, and construction materials, shows that the state's performance was better than that of Brazil, which stood at 5,7% during the period.
Paraná News Agency - Retail sales showed positive performance from January to November of last year, in all indicators, as demonstrated by the Monthly Trade Survey (PMC), carried out by the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE), released this Thursday (16). There was an increase in November, in the accumulated year and in the twelve months ending in November. Economist Ana Silvia Martins Franco, from the Macroeconomics and Conjuncture Center of the Paraná Institute for Economic and Social Development (Ipardes), explains that the expansion of trade in Paraná reflects the greater availability of income for the population. "It is especially a result of the good performance of agribusiness, along with the heating up of the regional labor market, which maintains the generation of more prestigious jobs, with higher incomes, mostly in the interior of the State," says Ana Silvia.
In November, real revenue (adjusted for inflation), according to the broader definition of the survey, expanded by 9,2% compared to November 2012. The survey, which includes, in addition to retail, the activities of vehicles, motorcycles, parts and accessories, and construction materials, shows that the state's performance was better than that of Brazil, which stood at 5,7% during the period.
In November, the result was driven by increased sales of books, newspapers, magazines and stationery (16,6%); household appliances (15,4%); fuels and lubricants (13,4%); pharmaceutical and perfumery products (13,4%); construction materials (13%); and hypermarkets, supermarkets, food products, beverages and tobacco (11%).
JANUARY TO NOVEMBER - In the year-to-date period, from January to November 2013, Paraná's retail sector maintained the best performance among the states in the south and southeast of the country, with a 7% increase in real sales, well above the national average of 3,6%. This positive result was influenced by higher sales of fuels and lubricants (11,3%); pharmaceutical and perfumery products (11,1%); household appliances (10,3%); personal and household goods (9,5%); books, newspapers, magazines and stationery (9,3%); construction materials (8,8%); and vehicles, motorcycles, parts and accessories (7,7%).
TWELVE MONTHS - In the twelve-month period ending in November 2013, real sales in the regional retail sector remained above the national average, with increases of 6,1%, compared to a variation of 3,8% for the national average. This was the second-best performance among the states of southern and southeastern Brazil, behind only Rio Grande do Sul (6,2%).
The main positive contributions came from the segments of pharmaceuticals and perfumery (10,8%); fuels and lubricants (10,2%); personal and household goods (10%); books, newspapers, magazines and stationery (9,4%); household appliances (9%); construction materials (7%); and vehicles, motorcycles, parts and accessories (6,6%).
RESTRICTED - In the restricted measurement (which does not consider the vehicle, motorcycle, and construction material sectors), the sales volume in the State was higher than the results recorded in the country, with growth of 10% in the month of November; 6% in the accumulated year and 5,7% in twelve months (ending in November). In Brazil, commercial revenue showed an increase of 7% in the month; 4,3% in the year and 4,4% in twelve months.
According to Ipardes economist Ana Silvia, despite the combination of rising interest rates and high inflation, which continued to affect the trade of equipment and materials for offices, IT and communication, and the vehicle, motorcycle, parts and accessories sector in November, the positive results for Paraná's retail sector should remain in the last month of 2013.
"This perspective stems from the combination of the effects of increased agricultural income, the policy of attracting investments and valuing the productive sector through the Paraná Competitivo Program, and the impacts of infrastructure works carried out by the state government, in addition to the seasonal interference of the movement associated with the end-of-year holidays, especially with the use of the thirteenth salary by workers," explains the economist from Ipardes.
