Witzel responds to Bolsonaro regarding coronavirus deaths: 'Stop playing politics and get to work'
"Instead of leading the way in health and economic actions, he has always taken on the role of creating crisis after crisis," stated the governor of Rio de Janeiro.
247 - The governor of Rio de Janeiro, Wilson Witzel, responded to Jair Bolsonaro regarding the coronavirus deaths on Wednesday afternoon, March 29th. On Tuesday afternoon, March 28th, when asked about Brazil surpassing China's number of victims, the president replied: "So what? What do you want me to do? I'm not a miracle worker."
According to the governor of Rio de Janeiro, Bolsonaro's statement is "unacceptable... The disregard with which the president has always treated the pandemic and the deaths. He shows no solidarity with the families who are losing the people they love most. The president has never given the pandemic the importance it deserves. Instead of leading health and economic actions, he has always taken on the role of creating crisis after crisis."
Furthermore, he stated that "Brazil must be the only country in the world that is having to live through a health, economic, and political crisis, all at the same time. And with a president who pretends the pandemic isn't his problem." He added that "the president, who should be a leader at a time like this, even goes so far as to mock the deaths. This is absolutely unacceptable."
