Sputnik Brazil - For the leader of the Liberal Party, the loss of the presidential elections was a stumble that can be "recovered from later," and for now, the focus will be on supporting Bolsonaro's son's candidacy for mayor of Rio.

In a statement made yesterday (17) during the inauguration of a PL directory in Niterói (RJ), the party president, Valdemar Costa Neto, said that he supports the candidacy of Senator Flávio Bolsonaro (PL) for mayor of Rio de Janeiro.

In the statement, Valdemar initially cited what he called Jair Bolsonaro's "stumble" in the presidential elections, according to UOL.

According to the PL leader, this setback will be recovered "later on," and then he mentioned his support for Flávio's candidacy for mayor.

"Bolsonaro left Brazil in a wonderful situation. Brazil was growing, and we had this setback, which we will recover from later. Our first recovery might be with Flávio. We will work to make him mayor of Rio de Janeiro," he stated.

During the event, a message from the former president was also shown. In one part, Bolsonaro says that defeats have occurred, but that the objectives will be achieved.

"We have a dream. We have an ideal. We have suffered defeats, but we continue to believe in God. And in the strength of our people, we will achieve our goal," he stated.

Bolsonaro has been in the United States since December 30, 2022, when he traveled there to avoid handing over the presidential sash to the current president of the Republic, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva.
