Rio 247 – This Tuesday (24) the public event "Uerj in Mourning in the Struggle" will be held at 9 am on the Maracanã campus of the university. The demonstration brings together students, administrative staff, professors, artists, intellectuals, as well as representatives of various entities, for the maintenance of public education and the development of research, extension and cultural activities.

"The grief present in this manifesto is important for us to consider how vibrant UERJ is as a historical and cultural heritage of our state, its contribution to the economic and social development of the Rio de Janeiro territory, and its power in the field of national education," says Professor Joana Bahia of the Department of Human Sciences.

According to the director of the university's Cultural Department, Ricardo Lima, "UERJ is in mourning for the threat they want to impose on it and also for the death sentence of a society that finds itself deprived of its fundamental rights of citizenship and democracy. We fight to continue the project of transforming people into citizens."

For the coordinator From the institution's Strategic Studies and Development Department, Tatiane Alves, "this is the way we found to say that, although the agony imposed on UERJ by a government that does not see public education as a priority is painful, we are alive, active, and fighting to prevent a fatal blow to the future of the state of Rio de Janeiro."

During the event, cultural activities are scheduled, including performances, musical presentations, and exhibitions. Confirmed appearances include samba musicians Aluísio Machado and Zé Katimba, the group AH! BANDA, directed by Ilana Linhales, and the UERJ Choirs, conducted by Mário Assef. The exhibition "The UERJ We Dream Of," featuring works by students from CAp-UERJ, opens at the Candido Portinari Gallery at 12 pm.
