247 - In the early hours of Thursday (7), an exchange of gunfire between agents of the Federal Highway Police (PRF) and militiamen shook the tranquility of Avenida Brasil, in Campo Grande, West Zone of Rio de Janeiro. The confrontation resulted in six militiamen injured and the arrest of 10 members of the gang of Luís Antônio da Silva Braga, known as Zinho, one of the leaders of the criminal group, reports the g1.
According to information from the Organized Crime Repression Unit (Draco), police officers had been monitoring the criminals for several months and received crucial information from the Civil Police intelligence sector, which allowed them to intercept the group of militiamen near the Engenheiro Oscar de Brito viaduct.
The militiamen, who were in four cars, were surprised by the police while traveling on the highway. During the operation, weapons and vests belonging to the Military Police were seized from the criminals.
The injured were taken to the Pedro II Municipal Hospital, located in Santa Cruz, to receive medical attention. Meanwhile, one lane of Avenida Brasil was closed in the direction of the West Zone so that forensic experts could carry out their investigative work.
The police operation that resulted in the arrest of the militiamen and the dismantling of part of Zinho's gang was the result of joint work between agents of the Federal Highway Police, Draco (Organized Crime Repression Department), and the Military Police.
