Tarcísio is booed at an event in Santos, and Lula asks the audience to lower their voices.
The governor, however, was also applauded when he praised the president for the partnership in making the Santos-Guarujá tunnel project viable.
247 - The governor of São Paulo, Tarcísio de Freitas (Republicanos), was booed this Thursday (27) during the launch of the tender for the Santos-Guarujá tunnel project, a project awaited for decades that promises to connect the two cities through a modern and safe infrastructure. President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT), who also participated in the event, made a gesture asking the audience to lower their voices.
The booing occurred when Tarcísio mentioned the investments of Sabesp, the sanitation company that was privatized during his administration. Despite the negative reactions, the governor was also applauded when he praised Lula for the partnership in making the Santos-Guarujá tunnel project viable. Check out the moment in the video below:
The governor highlighted the president's support for the project and thanked him for prioritizing the tunnel. "Mr. President, I want to thank you because, from the beginning, when we started the conversation, you prioritized this tunnel," said Tarcísio. He also recalled that Lula questioned him about the progress of the work during a meeting last year.
"I remember, Mr. President, you said: now is not the time for political disputes, we have to serve the citizens. And that is what we are doing now," Tarcísio stated, receiving applause from the audience.
The Santos-Guarujá tunnel - The Santos-Guarujá tunnel is considered a strategic project for urban mobility and the economic development of the region. With investments from the National Bank for Economic and Social Development (BNDES), the project is expected to improve the connection between the two cities, reducing travel time and increasing traffic safety.
Tarcísio highlighted the role of BNDES in making the project viable and thanked the bank's director, Luciana Costa, who represented the institution's president, Aloizio Mercadante, at the event. "BNDES has been fundamental in providing for this tunnel. The bank understood better than anyone the role it has in this provision," he stated.
