Tarcísio and the union reach an agreement after the strike, and the subway will have free access during the day in São Paulo.
Services are expected to resume starting at 10:00 AM.
247 - The metro and the Metro Workers Union reached an agreement for the transport to resume operation this Thursday (23), the radio reported. CBNThe union's proposal to allow workers to operate with the turnstiles unlocked was accepted, and this was agreed upon by the government of Tarcísio de Freitas (Republicanos). The measure aims to prevent potential harm to the public.
Subway users faced a chaotic morning due to a strike affecting lines 1-Blue, 2-Green, 3-Red, and 15-Silver. The strike had been announced indefinitely.
The expectation is that services will resume starting at 10:00 AM, according to Narciso Soares, vice-president of the Metro Workers Union, who spoke to CBN.
"We've been demanding this since Wednesday morning. We sent a letter with this proposal, but we hadn't received a response. Now a letter has arrived from the subway system finalizing an agreement for free access. Around 10 or 11 am, all stations should be open with free access, so people don't have to pay for transportation, but they can pay for the subway," he said.
The release of the turnstiles follows a decision by the Regional Labor Court, which also rejected a preliminary injunction in which the Metro requested a minimum number of trains to operate in case of a strike.
“According to the reporting judge of the decision, Eliane Aparecida da Silva Pedroso, this does not reduce the supply of transportation services to the community, contrary to what was proposed by the employers' union. In the magistrate's opinion, a strike is a nuisance and aims to mobilize society around the demands and needs of a community,” states a press release from the Regional Labor Court.
Bus lines
SPTrans reported that it has extended two lines and reinforced the fleet of 13 existing lines that serve the metro lines in the city. The municipal agency also reported that it has been monitoring passenger traffic on municipal lines since midnight and has instructed the concessionaires of the municipal public transport system to maintain 100% operational fleet capacity throughout the day, including during peak hours.
Granted lines
The concessionaires ViaMobilidade and ViaQuatro, which operate metro lines 4-Yellow and 5-Lilac; and commuter train lines 8-Diamond and 9-Emerald, reported that operations are proceeding normally this Thursday and that they are evaluating the availability of new trains to reinforce operations.
