Tarcísio de Freitas says that "full-time school cannot be a prison for students"

The statement was directed at Rodrigo Garcia (PSDB), also a candidate for governor of São Paulo, who advocates for the expansion of full-time schools with the offering of technical courses.

247 - The candidate for governor of São Paulo for Republicans, Tarcísio de Freitas, said at an event aimed at conservatives, in Leme, in the interior of São Paulo, this Sunday (18), that “full-time school cannot be a prison for students”.

The message was aimed at Rodrigo Garcia (PSDB), also a candidate for governor of São Paulo, who advocates for expanding full-time schools by offering technical courses throughout the network.

On social media, Garcia sent a message to Tarcísio, asking the candidate to respect the state's achievements. "I'm not speaking ill of your state here. Comparing full-time schooling to prison is disrespectful to us, the people of São Paulo. Ask the mothers what they think about seeing their children studying and eating twice as much."

The Bolsonaro-supporting candidate also reiterated his criticism of the use of body cameras on the vests of state military police officers, a day after stating, in the debate held by SBT, that he would reassess the use of the cameras. Tarcísio says that the cameras put the police officer at a disadvantage compared to the criminal. Tarcísio said that "it would be cheaper to monitor criminals in open prison who re-offend," but it is worth remembering that the use of ankle bracelets is a decision that falls to the justice system and not the state.

“Then Datafolha says that 90% of the population supports cameras on police officers. That’s a lie,” Tarcísio exclaimed. Studies already indicate that the use of body cameras increases troop protection and reduces police lethality. A survey by the Datafolha institute released in July revealed that approval of the use of cameras on military police uniforms is over 90% in São Paulo.
