Tarcísio claims the former police chief hadn't asked for protection: 'we would have provided it'
According to the governor, the state government in São Paulo is studying the implementation of automatic escorts for authorities working in the fight against organized crime.
247 - The governor of São Paulo, Tarcísio de Freitas (Republicanos), stated this Tuesday (16) that the former civil police delegate Ruy Ferraz, who was shot dead in Praia Grande (SP), did not request any protection from the state.
"Because, if we had the means, we would provide them. We have some authorities who have state protection. And every time we are asked for it, we always approach it with great responsibility," he said in an interview on a podcast by CBN and the newspaper O Globo.
"I don't have... what kind of protection do I have? I live alone here, I live alone in Praia Grande, which is their area. Today, I have no support whatsoever," he said.
According to Tarcísio, the São Paulo state government is studying the implementation of automatic escorts for authorities working in the fight against organized crime. "It means that as soon as the person leaves their post, they already have a police force, escort, and security."
A police officer for over 40 years, Ruy Ferraz Fontes headed the São Paulo Civil Police between 2019 and 2022. He worked in the Homicide Division (DHPP) and the Narcotics Investigation Division of the State Department for the Repression of Drug Trafficking (Denarc).
Fontes also headed various police stations and divisions, such as the Police Station for Investigations into Bank Thefts and Robberies. He was responsible for the arrest of leaders and other members of the Primeiro Comando da Capital, the PCC. This criminal faction has more than two thousand members in nearly 30 countries and branches in more than 20 Brazilian states.
