Tabata Amaral: 'As a Catholic, it hurt me to see what Bolsonaro did in Aparecida'

247 - Re-elected federal deputy Tabata Amaral (PSB-SP) criticized supporters of Jair Bolsonaro (PL) this Thursday (13) and said she felt offended after the confusion that occurred at the Sanctuary of Our Lady of Aparecida this Wednesday (12).
"I am Catholic. I was an altar boy. The church is important for young people from the outskirts of the city and it was important for my upbringing. And it hurt me deeply, as a Catholic, to see what they did yesterday," the congresswoman said in an interview with... UOL portal.
"Bolsonaro claims to be a Christian, but he preaches the opposite of what Jesus taught. He preaches hatred and this chaos. He is more reminiscent of the Pharisees than the teachings of Jesus," the congresswoman added.
The PSB member asked for respect for Catholic rituals. "To see a sanctuary, which is sacred to me, and see that they booed an archbishop, that they made a mess, is such a great disrespect. There were people drinking inside the church, being aggressive towards TV Aparecida, which my mother watches. Nobody is obliged to follow Catholic rites, but when you choose to be in church, you have to have a minimum of respect."

The congresswoman was re-elected with 337 votes on October 2nd. The PSB was one of the nine parties that supported presidential candidate Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) in the first round.
