247 - The São Paulo Civil Police arrested Jefferson Souza this Wednesday (19), one of the suspects in the murder of cyclist Vitor Medrado, 46, which occurred on February 13 in Itaim Bibi, south of the city of São Paulo. The information was released by the State Department of Criminal Investigations (DEIC), responsible for the operation that resulted in the man's capture in Paraisópolis. Jefferson is believed to be the driver of the motorcycle used in the crime, but there is still no confirmation about the arrest of the shooter, the report highlights. UOL.

The case gained notoriety after security cameras recorded the moment when Vitor Medrado was approached by two men on a motorcycle, around 6 am, outside Parque do Povo. The images show the victim being shot in the neck and falling to the ground. The passenger on the motorcycle takes Vitor's cell phone, and the criminals flee the scene. The cyclist was rescued and taken to Hospital das Clínicas, but did not survive his injuries. The crime was registered as a robbery followed by murder.

Hours after the murder, a motorcycle with the same license plate was spotted in another attack, this time in Brooklin, a neighborhood next to Itaim Bibi. Two men shot at a motorcyclist, who was hit and needed to be rescued by the Águia helicopter. The assailants fled without taking anything.

In addition to Jefferson Souza, police also arrested Suedna Barbosa Carneiro, known as "the crime boss," on February 18. She is accused of leading a gang of fake delivery drivers and financing robberies in the Itaim Bibi region and other areas of the city.

During a tribute to Vitor Medrado, held on February 14th, his wife, Gisele Gasparotto, also a cyclist, expressed indignation and sadness at the loss. “Vitor is not the first victim and he won't be the last. I've been robbed, many colleagues have had their belongings stolen, whether it's their bicycle or cell phone, and things don't change. The police come and stay for a week. May his death not be in vain and may we be able to practice our sport safely,” declared Gisele.
