The Brazilian Journalists' Union (SJSP) and the National Federation of Journalists (FENAJ) are calling for a demonstration in solidarity with Palestinian journalists and in protest against crimes committed by Israel.
Victims of the Israeli genocide in Gaza, journalists died during an Israeli bombing of a hospital in the Palestinian territory.
247 - The Union of Professional Journalists in the State of São Paulo (SJSP) and the National Federation of Journalists (FENAJ) have called on journalists to participate in a demonstration of support for Palestinian media professionals who were victims of assassinations perpetrated by the State of Israel.
The organizations called for the demonstration after five journalists were killed on Monday (25) during an Israeli bombing of a hospital in Gaza. The Israeli Armed Forces stated that the media professionals were not members of the Islamic group Hamas.
Around 200 journalists have lost their lives since October 2023, when Israeli forces began the genocide in the Gaza Strip. This death toll surpasses the total recorded from 2020 to 2022, a period encompassing the previous three years, when 165 professionals were killed worldwide.
The International Criminal Court (ICC) issued an arrest warrant for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in 2024. But war crimes committed by Israeli forces continue and have also involved other countries in the conflict, such as the West Bank, Iran, and Lebanon.
The Palestinian PT Nucleus, the Shireen Collective (Shireen Abu Akleh of Journalists Against Genocide), the Arab-Palestinian Federation of Brazil (FEPAL), the Women for Peace in Palestine organization, and the Palestinian Front of São Paulo also supported the call for the protest.
