Rio enters a state of emergency due to the storms.

Mayor Eduardo Paes thanked the Lula government for its support and mentioned Minister Waldez Góes.

247 - Ten people died due to the rains that hit the North Zone of Rio de Janeiro (RJ) and the Metropolitan region between this Saturday (13) and Sunday (14). The information was released by the Fire Department. The mayor of Rio de Janeiro, Eduardo Paes, decreed a state of emergency in the capital around 15 pm. The Rio Operations Center reported that the city entered operational stage number 4, the second highest on the risk scale. In Niterói, the alert is at its maximum.

"I received a call from Minister @waldezoficial on behalf of President @LulaOficial, offering his support to the city of Rio in addressing the problems caused by the rains that hit us in the early hours of Sunday. I am grateful for the solidarity and support," Paes reported.

According to the city hall, six fallen trees and 30 waterlogged areas were recorded. Rio Ônibus reported that, due to the heavy rains, bus line operations are irregular in several parts of the city because of flooding and waterlogged areas. Some lines were more affected due to the overflowing of the Acari River.

According to Alerta Rio, this Sunday (14) a stationary front in the ocean still influences the weather in the city of Rio. Thus, the sky will be predominantly cloudy and there is a forecast of light rain at any time, which may be moderate in the morning. Winds will be light to moderate, and temperatures will remain stable, with a minimum of 23°C and a maximum of 31°C.

According to Alerta Rio, on Monday (15) and Tuesday (16), there will be a reduction in cloud cover over the city and no rain is expected. Temperatures will rise and winds will be light to moderate.

Niteroi

The heavy rains that hit Niterói, in the Rio de Janeiro metropolitan area, reached their peak on Saturday night. The city recorded the highest rainfall in a single hour since the municipality began taking measurements. The rainfall reached 120,2 millimeters in one hour, representing more than 80% of the expected volume for the entire month of January, according to the city hall.
