Ricardo Nunes says that amnesty for the 8/1 coup plotters is "a topic to be considered."

The mayor of São Paulo avoided giving absolute support to the proposal, but criticized the severe penalties applied to participants in the coup attempts.

247 - The mayor of São Paulo, Ricardo Nunes (MDB), stated that amnesty for those convicted for the acts of January 8, 2023, when Bolsonaro supporters invaded and vandalized the headquarters of the Three Powers in Brasília, is a "topic to be considered."

“An important demonstration for reflection on the reasonableness of penalties. In a peaceful manner, it raises a topic to be considered,” Nunes stated. CNN Brazil this Tuesday (18). Despite not attending the pro-amnesty demonstration held on Sunday (16), in Rio de Janeiro, the MDB member considered the act legitimate.

Nunes has avoided making unconditional statements of support for the proposal, maintaining a more cautious tone, but has signaled support for amnesty if there is no review of sentences, which in some cases reached 17 years in prison. "With stratospheric sentences, there is no other way but amnesty," he stated.
