Crime reports can now be tracked online in Rio de Janeiro.

Police reports of any type of crime filed at police stations throughout the state of Rio de Janeiro can now be tracked online. Individuals can access the Transparency Portal, a tool provided by the Civil Police, which allows them to consult their report online using a code that must be requested at the time of filing the report.

The director of the General Department of Information Technology and Telecommunications, Delegate Fábio Ferreira, said that the initiative aims to provide more convenience to citizens, who can follow the progress of their report from home, without having to go to the police station. "We created the service to provide more agility to information, but with the premise of guaranteeing the confidentiality of investigations. It is a way for citizens to have access to the progress of their case."

According to the Civil Police, when a victim files a police report, they will receive a validation code to track the progress of their complaint at the time of registration.

Professor Bárbara dos Santos, 33, a victim of a robbery in which her wallet containing documents was stolen in the city center, approves of the initiative. "Sometimes it's inconvenient because we have to leave our work and go to the police station closest to the incident. Being able to track it online makes it much easier if we have to return to the police station for any necessary reason," she said.

The portal, which operates at the electronic address, will have a field available for filling in the CPF number, RO number, and another for the validation code, issued at the time of registration. The information is forwarded to the email registered by the victim, thus ensuring that it reaches only the interested party.
