PT is considering supporting Kalil against Zema in Minas Gerais.

247 - The Workers' Party (PT) and the Brazilian Social Democracy Party (PSDB) have intensified their dispute over alliances in Minas Gerais, the country's second-largest electoral college. While the PT awaits a position from the mayor of Belo Horizonte, Alexandre Kalil (PSD), the PSDB is considering supporting the reelection of Governor Romeu Zema (Novo). According to... Estadão ColumnAccording to the newspaper O Estado de S. Paulo, the Workers' Party is already studying an alternative in case Kalil decides not to run in the state election.  

According to the report, the PT's alternative project was launched at the end of December, when members of the party's state and federal caucuses nominated the mayor of Teófilo Otoni, Daniel Sucupira, as a pre-candidate for state governor, even without the full support of the national leadership.

The assessment is that "Kalil's pre-candidacy is still too unstructured for the start of an election year. Lula's inner circle believes that the mayor would be the ideal name to 'polarize' with Zema and help the Workers' Party candidate in Minas Gerais."
