247 - The Municipal Secretariat of Social Assistance and Development (SMADS) of the City of São Paulo failed to meet the deadline for registering homeless people in city hotels. The deadline was Tuesday, May 12th. The measure was announced on May 4th in a public notice from SMADS. The secretariat, however, said it will republish the notice, but there is no deadline for the new registration process.

The homeless are one of the sectors most exposed to the coronavirus and least able to receive assistance from state authorities. Furthermore, many of them are in the high-risk group for coronavirus. According to a 2019 Qualitest census, there are 2.211 elderly people experiencing homelessness.

Guilherme Boulos, former presidential candidate for the PSOL party and leader of the Homeless Workers' Movement (MTST), said that the City Hall made a "regrettable decision" by postponing the hiring of hotels.
