The Military Police (PM) will reinforce patrolling of the beaches in the southern zone of the city of Rio de Janeiro to prevent riots and muggings like the one that happened last Sunday (14) on Ipanema Beach. There will be 710 police officers from the Botafogo, Copacabana and Leblon battalions, in addition to the special Shock, Canine Action and Large Events Policing battalions.
According to the Military Police, officers from the Large Events Policing Battalion, who have been controlling demonstrations in recent months, will be working directly on the beaches.
The operation's command center will be located on an elevated observation platform to be set up on Arpoador Beach, between Ipanema and Copacabana. An aircraft from the PM's Air Mobile Group will transmit real-time images to the monitoring team on the platform.
The images will be used to help identify suspects and to coordinate the deployment of teams to various points along the Rio de Janeiro coastline.
