Police officer murdered in Rocinha.
One day after the change in strategy adopted by the Military Police in the favela, Rodrigo Alves Cavalcante was patrolling the favela when he was shot and could not survive his injuries.
247 - Military police officer Rodrigo Alves Cavalcante, from the Rio de Janeiro Shock Battalion, was killed in Rocinha during the early hours of Wednesday morning. Even though the area is occupied by officers, the favela is being overtaken by a wave of violence that has already killed nine men since February of this year.
The police officer's murder occurred one day after the change in strategy adopted by the department. Following the death of Alexandre da Cunha Fernandes, 30, last Sunday, officers began patrolling less-accessible areas of the favela as well.
According to the investigation, three or four people shot at Rodrigo Alves Cavalcante. They hit the police officer in the armpit and managed to escape. The victim received first aid at the scene and was taken to Miguel Couto Hospital, but did not survive.
