Delegate Evaristo Pontes, from the Homicide Division of Baixada Fluminense, responsible for the investigations into the death of the Greek ambassador to Brazil, Kyriankos Amiridis, informed this Monday (2) that the technical police will collect genetic material from the diplomat's 10-year-old daughter, to make the official recognition of the body, found charred inside the victim's car, in Nova Iguaçu, in Baixada Fluminense.

“We are arranging for the examination. We have all the information identifying the body as that of the ambassador. But we need the technical examination. This is protocol. Only with the technical-scientific examination will we be able to assure with absolute certainty that it is the ambassador's body,” stated Pontes.

The police chief also confirmed that Greek police officers are in Rio de Janeiro to assist with the investigation into the death of the Greek ambassador.

The car the ambassador was driving was found burned, on the morning of last Thursday (29), under a viaduct of the Arco Metropolitano, in Nova Iguaçu. Inside, was the charred body of diplomat.

According to the police chief, Amiridis was killed inside his home in Nova Iguaçu by military police officer Sergio Gomes Moreira Filho, the lover of ambassador Françoise de Souza Oliveira, and then taken to the car, wrapped in a rug, with the help of the officer's cousin, Eduardo Moreira de Melo.

The police officer appears in security camera footage from the ambassador's condominium. He and Eduardo confessed to participating in the crime, but the ambassador's wife denies any involvement. However, according to Detective Pontes, she was the mastermind behind the murder. The three had a 30-day temporary arrest warrant issued by the court.

Among the possible motives for the crime are the misappropriation of assets and even the ambassador's life insurance, but this circumstance is still under investigation.

The diplomat had been missing since last Monday (26). Amiridis lived in Brasília and was on vacation in Rio, where he was consul-general from 2001 to 2004.
