Police arrest drug trafficker Polegar in Paraguay.
Identified as the head of drug trafficking in Morro da Mangueira, this criminal is one of the most wanted by the police after escaping a siege with 80 men during the occupation of the Alemão complex in December 2010.
Rio 247 - One of the most wanted drug traffickers by the police, Alexander Mendes da Silva, Polegar, identified as the head of the drug trafficking faction in Morro da Mangueira, was arrested this Wednesday (19), in Paraguay. Polegar is considered one of the four most important drug trafficking bosses in RJ who was still at large.
The accused was in the Complexo do Alemão favela during an operation to retake the hill in December 2010, but managed to escape. Around 80 police officers participated in the siege, which led a group of criminals to escape through the grounds of the former Army shooting range, located behind the Rio Zoo.
Polegar was hiding in the Complexo do Alemão favela after escaping from the Crispim Ventino Halfway House in Benfica on August 14, 2009, where he was serving a sentence under a semi-open regime. In Alemão, he received control of several highly profitable drug points from the drug trafficker Pezão, according to information from the Disque Denúncia hotline, which offered a R$ 2 reward for his capture.
Recently, Polegar and seven other individuals were indicted by the Public Prosecutor's Office, where they will face criminal charges in the 2nd Criminal Court of Santa Cruz for the crimes of forming a criminal organization and laundering money derived from drug trafficking.
The complaint details how Polegar acted, starting in 2003, to conceal from the Justice system the profits he obtained as the head of drug trafficking in Morro da Mangueira. He has already been sentenced to prison by four criminal courts for crimes committed between 1994 and 2002.
