Rio police train with FBI and prepare for the World Cup and Olympics.

The city is preparing for major events by seeking assistance from American security agencies; the forecast is that by the end of 2012, a total of one thousand officers will be trained.

Rio_247 – Host of major sporting events, the marvelous city promises to be well-prepared for security during these large events. The city's police have decided to invest in specialized training, seeking reinforcements from American security agencies such as the FBI and the Department of Justice, learning to recognize fraudulent documents or even deal with incidents involving chemical weapons. The forecast is that another 36 courses will be held by the end of 2012.

According to Melissa Pongeluppi, Superintendent of Education at the Sub-Secretariat of Education and Prevention of the Secretariat of Security, 100 officers have already been trained in total, but the goal is to train 1,000 by the end of next year.

According to Michael Brown, head of security at the U.S. Consulate and responsible for organizing the training, the courses are offered in more than 30 countries by the American government.

"Our goal is to help the country improve security. However, we don't intend to impose a specific method. Each location defines what is best, what fits best. As we have already hosted many large events, we have the experience," explained Brown, who emphasized that the courses are offered according to the needs of each country.

Brown explains that the classes are taught by retired agents from American government agencies, all of whom held high rank.
