Nine of the ten police officers accused of torturing, killing, and concealing the body of construction worker Amarildo de Souza voluntarily presented themselves at the Rio de Janeiro State Military Police Headquarters in the early evening; their defense claims that "they have no evidence incriminating their clients, only speculation, and that their arrest is an exaggeration, since, up to this point, all have cooperated with the investigations"; soldier Wellington Tavares da Silva is the only one who has not yet appeared.

Rio de Janeiro - After being notified of the preventive detention ordered today (4) by Judge Daniella Alvarez Prado, of the 35th Criminal Court of Rio, nine of the ten police officers accused of torturing, killing and hiding the body of construction worker Amarildo de Souza presented themselves spontaneously in the early evening at the General Headquarters of the Military Police of the State of Rio de Janeiro, in the city center.
According to a statement released by lawyer Marcos Espínola, responsible for the defense of soldiers Victor Vinícius Pereira da Silva, Douglas Roberto Machado, Jorge Luiz Gonçalves Coelho, and Marlon Campos Dias, the investigation conducted by delegate Rivaldo Barbosa "has no evidence to incriminate his clients, only speculation, and the arrest is an exaggeration, since, up to this point, all have cooperated with the investigations."
Also present were Major Edson dos Santos, Lieutenant Luiz Felipe de Medeiros, Sergeant Jairo da Conceição Ribas, and soldiers Anderson César Soares Maia and Fábio Brasil da Rocha. Soldier Wellington Tavares da Silva was the only one who has not yet appeared.
