Police officers accused of raping a young woman inside a patrol car were honored for 'bravery' weeks before the crime in Rio de Janeiro.

247 - The two military police officers from the 25th BPM (Saquarema) accused of involvement in the rape of a young woman last week were recently honored by the Saquarema City Council. Diogo Viana Lourenço and Sanclair Marinho Antunes Corecha received the Cleyson da Costa Almeida Medal of Bravery on April 4th. The honor was created to recognize individuals who demonstrate exemplary behavior, acts of courage and bravery in the line of duty, and relevant services rendered to the population or public authorities, according to the Saquarema City Council.

According to the Extra portal, Three weeks ago, councilman Abraão da Melgil (DEM) posted photos on social media presenting the awards and calling the police officers "heroes" who "risk their lives for the citizens." The proposal to grant the honor to Diogo Viana Lourenço was made by councilman Bebeto Rio Seco (PROS). Neither of the police officers responded to requests for interviews from the reporter.
