Military police arrested a suspect today in Rio de Janeiro after carrying out a morning raid at the Daltro Santos state school in Bangu, in the city's west zone. According to the police, criminals jumped over the school wall to escape an operation against drug trafficking.

The school was evacuated for the search. According to the police, an M-16 rifle was also seized. Since early morning, military police have been conducting an operation in the favelas of Vila Aliança, in Bangu, and Coreia and Rebu, in Senador Camará.

In a statement, the State Department of Education affirmed that, during the police raid, there was no damage to property or theft of equipment. As a preventative measure, classes were temporarily suspended at the Bangu and Collechio state schools.
