The Public Prosecutor's Office and the Military Police are carrying out an operation today (21) to arrest 16 suspected drug traffickers in the state of Rio. According to the Public Prosecutor's Office, the group sold marijuana and cocaine in the city of Teresópolis, in the mountainous region. The drug was obtained through contacts with criminals in the capital.

According to the Public Prosecutor's Office, the operation was controlled from inside the Gericinó Penitentiary Complex, in the western part of the city. The group is also suspected of bringing drugs into the prison to be sold.

Arrest warrants and search and seizure warrants were issued by the Criminal Court of Teresópolis. The operation involves 180 officers from the Military Police, the Special Action Group to Combat Organized Crime of the Public Prosecutor's Office (Gaeco), and the Penitentiary System Intelligence Superintendency (Sispen).
